EDC Group

FCBS is set to dramatically help EDC Group to continue their ISO14001 status, reducing their energy
consumption and significantly reducing paper wastage across their business. The installation is also expected to
save over twenty four thousand pounds per year measured against the legacy equipment that it replaced. All staff
now use their security cards which have Mifare chips to access print jobs which can then be output at any device
on the Sharp multi-function printer fleet. High speed Sharp MX5112n’s were paramount to the success of the
installation catering effortlessly with the demands of a busy office environment.

“…the service throughout has been flawless and we would thoroughly recommend First Class Business Solutions”

Requirements and Organisational Framework:

Vision 7 International is among the top 25 marketing communications companies in the world, with some 1,300 employees in Canada, the United Kingdom and the United States. Vision 7 International has two trading arms, one of which is EDC with a global network of discipline specific agencies. Their prestigious designer offices in central London are home to a number of businesses in the group, the most well know is the award winning Dare – a creative agency who works for many high profile clients.

The group has over 400 staff and 40 contractors using its shared facilities in their impressive offices which have been designed with collaboration in mind. Jonathan Williams – Facilities Manager and Ian Hopkins – IT Director were looking for a flexible print solution that would fit the company environment and develop with the business.

The customer’s previous equipment was from two different suppliers which made it difficult to have a cohesive approach to managing the print requirements. Jonathan contacted a number of suppliers and conducted a full print audit, but was introduced to First Class Business Solutions by Orange IS their IT partner quite late in the process. First Class Business Solutions won the Managed Print Service (MPS) contract by demonstrating their understanding of EDC’s business along with their transparent pricing approach which included Sharp MFP’s and Papercut software with the full “pull-printing” facility that they sought.

Solutions and benefits:

First Class Business Solutions installed a number of Sharp MX-5112n’s which feature a large 10.1” LCD touchscreen display for ease of use. With print speeds of 51ppm in both colour and black and white these machines were the ideal choice for the general office environment at EDC group. Space close to desks was limited so Sharp MXB382 A4 38ppm black and white devices with their small footprint were also installed. Sharp MXB382’s has a 7.0 inch colour touch screen control panel, which has been customised to show the company logo and thumbnail previews for intuitive control.

All the Sharp machines impressed the customer with their speed, small footprint, ease of use and overall image quality, “even the black and white machines are faster than our previous equipment” Jonathan commented. Installation was carried out over the quiet Christmas period to minimise disruption, and the transition to the new Sharp machines was very smooth, users quickly accessed all the advanced features of the Sharp machines by using the intuitive touch screen display. The customer was very impressed with the Sharp machines and the service he received.

“The installation and networking was carried out seamlessly with a minimum of disruption to the business” he commented. Papercut software was then installed and rules set up so that the default print setting for all jobs is black & white and double sided output saving cost and paper. Full visibility of who is printing which jobs are now available and the customer is looking into billing specific print costs to individual clients. “

First Class Business Solutions have installed remote management Callisto One Stop to manage the installed Sharp
MFP’s enabling them to ensure that toners are replaced on time and the clients “up-time” maintained at a maximum.
Overall the customer has been very pleased with the solution provided by First Class Business Solutions, they commented “the service throughout has been flawless and we would thoroughly recommend First Class Business Solutions” they went on to say that they enjoyed the “working partnership” with FCBS, who are already discussing ways in which the solution can be extended, such as using stored forms on the Sharp copier and looking at document management solutions.

Product energy usage trials conducted on loan machines from different manufacturers saw Sharp come out on top. The Sharp machines with their self-adjusting or pre-set auto shut down capabilities and special Eco Scan Mode (which switches the fuser roller off whenever appropriate) meant much less energy consumption and a calculated saving of over £8000 over the life of the contract.

We expect significant paper savings over the first year” commented Jonathan “When this is added to the anticipated £24,000 saving in the print contract and the calculated energy saving of £8000 over the life of the contract, we are extremely happy with the Sharp installation”.

“It’s refreshing to work with such a pro-active partner who is always thinking ahead”.
